Sajid Varda is an Actor, Writer, Producer and Broadcaster. He has worked in the entertainment industry for over 25 years having been cast in lead roles for both drama and comedy on primetime British Television notably BBC TV’s ‘Byker Grove’ as well as for ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 and more recently having produced and starred in an award winning US comedy feature film and an international award winning British short film.
Sajid trained as a professional singer having performed with some of the world’s foremost conductors and orchestras, recording several albums including one at the famous Abbey Road Studios.
His passion for acting also started around the same time, which led to his very first supporting lead role in a Channel 4 comedy series ‘A Teenage Health Freak’ starring alongside Tony Robinson which then led on to many more roles. Sajid acted in and co-produced US feature film ‘The Tiger Hunter’ which won several awards and achieved critical acclaim from the industry.
Sajid exec produced and starred in a British comedy short film ‘The Chop’ directed by another young rising star, which won over 53 awards and continues to win awards around the world in both BAFTA and OSCAR qualifying festivals.
Sajid established UK Muslim Film and the first Muslim International Film Festival to champion creative endeavours by Muslims from the around the world and to address the negative portrayals often seen on screen.
Sajid serves as a member of the BFI’s Screen Advisory Group.
